Heart Health Awareness: Five Tips For Understanding and Protecting Your Heart
Not only is February the month of showing love for a special someone in your life, but it’s also the month to show some love to yourself, especially to your heart. Here in the United States, the month of February is Heart Health Month, when is the last time you showed it some love? Heart health is an important issue, yet many people lack the knowledge of how to take care of their hearts. Here are five tips for understanding and protecting your heart health.
- Learn About Your Risks– Knowing your risk factors is essential; these include genetic predispositions, age, family history, gender, and lifestyle choices like smoking or inactivity. Talk with your doctor about any potential issues to be aware of and address them if necessary.
- Get Tested– Regularly receiving tests such as blood pressure checks or cholesterol readings can help detect any potential problems early on so that they can be addressed quickly and effectively before they cause serious damage.
- Watch What You Eat– Eating a nutritious diet and avoiding processed foods that are high in fat or sugar is an important part of taking care of your heart health. Try aiming for five servings of fruits and veggies each day as well as lean proteins like fish or legumes. If you’re looking for someone to do the guesswork for you, check out our Truvy Fit™ app!
