Self-care can sometimes be mistaken as an act of selfishness. However, when done in moderation and with intention, you'll find that it can be beneficial for both our physical and emotional well-being. It can help us maintain healthy levels of stress and prevent feelings of burnout. Let's be real here… burnout is the worst, so you have to make sure to take time to take care of yourself which will then allow us to be better caregivers to others, too. Becoming the best version of yourself starts with taking care of YOU!

    Self-Care is NOT Selfish

Self-care can come in many forms such as taking a break from work or attending to our physical health by exercising or eating nutritious meals (have you checked out our Truvy Fit App? It does all the work for you)! We should also take time to relax and enjoy activities like reading a book or going for a walk. Most importantly, self-care should become part of our daily routine allowing us to recharge and refresh our minds. It doesn’t have to take up massive parts of our daily routine. It can be a few small things every couple of hours just to reset our focus and get back to work.

Some quick and easy ways to focus on self-care throughout your day:

    1. Taking a break from work (yes, take a break) by disconnecting from all technology and allowing yourself a few minutes of relaxation. It’s easy to get caught up in what we’re working on, so set a reminder to disconnect from your devices every two hours.
    2. Going for a walk in nature to experience the calming benefits of being outdoors. Even if it’s just around the block - we can never stress too much on the importance of getting outside each day.
    3. Practicing mindfulness meditation to clear your mind, reduce stress, and foster inner peace.
    4. Setting down your phone before bed and picking up a book or taking time to journal.
    5. Taking a nice hot bubble bath.

Remember that self-care looks different for everyone, so find what works best for you. Make sure that it is something enjoyable that relaxes your mind and body! Once you have scheduled some time each day for self-care activities, try your best to stick with them so that they become second nature. It is not an act of selfishness; it is an investment into ourselves that we must prioritize if we desire true balance in life. You'll soon find that regularly practicing self-care can bring incredible mental clarity and physical health benefits!

Here’s to becoming the best versions of ourselves by taking care of YOU first!
